Find Your Book:  A Summer Class in Recognizing  and Embracing

Something that you feel will find its own form.
Jack Kerouac

I’ve shared Natalie Goldberg’s Writing down the Bones with a lot of readers,  who went on to do writing practice or freewriting.  But what does one do  with the stack of filled notebooks or one huge computer file you’ve accumulated?

In this class you will  recover your various writings and begin to consider what you want to do  with them.  You might come across stories, journals, lists, drafts, audio, video, e-mails, and texts.  Over the weeks we will search, gather, arrange, and determine what we want to bring forth.

Of course, it may not actually  be a “book” that becomes  your focus—it could be  a collection of ten poems,  a monologue, a long interview you recorded in 2005 and completely forgot, or selected correspondence with one person over the years.

We will meet  by Zoom on  Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 pm Central Time.  We start on  July 8 and go to the end of August, eight sessions total.

Classes  will have time for concentrated attention on the project,  dialogues with one other,  planning for the week ahead, and an open forum to share breakthroughs.

We can also take heart and inspiration from classmates who may be  trying to do something similar or quite different from ourselves.
