Share the Wealth with Katrina Becker and Natalie Long … Love: A Chit-Chat Apostolate–Dorothy Day and  Catherine de Hueck Doherty

Born a year apart, and passing away within five years of one another, the twentieth century witnessed the inspired lives of Dorothy Day and Catherine de Hueck Doherty, two luminous figures of contemporary Christianity. These two women–so similar in some respects, and yet so different in others–shared an unswerving commitment to living the Gospel in practice, a decision which occasioned not a small amount of hardship in their respective lives (“[f]or love in action is a harsh and dreadful thing compared with love in dreams.”) In the spirit of Doherty’s “Chitchat Apostolate”, join us for an evening of reflection on the lives of these two remarkable women and their shared faith in the redemptive power of Love, which they sought to embody in this world.

Katrina is a lifelong learner, collector of quotes, and cradle Catholic from St. Louis. Wannabe patron saint of tea parties, auto-renewed library books, and incurable wanderlust. Her (possible) favorite quality about Dorothy Day: Dorothy’s preferred economical lengthy bus travel cross-country, which allowed her many hours of uninterrupted reading time.

Natalie Long is an environmental attorney, gardener, and admirer of devout practitioners of the Christian faith, such as Dorothy Day, Catherine de Hueck Doherty, and their younger contemporary, Thomas Merton. Natalie not only draws inspiration from their writings, their witness, and their sincere commitment to truth, but also draws comfort from the knowledge that, even today, giants may yet walk among us.
