In fall 2013 Nebu Kolenchery studied abroad in Manila, Philippines through the Casa Bayanihan program. Come join us as he shares his experience of being challenged and loved. During his time there, Nebu wrote: “I wonder why the Filipino smile has fascinated me this much. I think a big part of it is that, for me, in Nanay Duday’s and Annabelle’s smiles, I see that they do not shy away from the darkness in their lives; both light and dark are held together. In my past, I have tended to separate the lightness and darkness in my life…Nanay Duday and Annabelle and their prophetic smiles are the symbols of an alternative reality where I can always be creatively faithful to and as Nebu in every one of those worlds, and that I do not have to run away or shy from the darkness in my life.”
