I got to spend a month this summer with the Casa de Solidaridad in El Salvador. It was a public health program that was focused on walking in communities and learning about public health and healthcare in El Salvador. However, I spent most of my time wrestling with the simultaneous beauty and richness of Salvadoran people coupled with their suffering and struggle. The contradiction of being an American in the Salvadoran culture, community, and solidarity were also strong themes during my time there that are great subjects for discussion and sharing.
Lizzie is pursuing a Master’s in Public Health at Saint Louis University.
